PATIENCE ｜ 忍耐

ENPATIENCE. Literally: forbearance, long-suffering, endurance, continuance. Patience is not a passive, stolid and hopeless condition, but an active, sensitive, expectant state, engaging the full energy of mind, heart and will. Wrought by trial: Rom. 5:3. Tribulation worketh patience. James 1:3. The trying of your faith worketh patience. 2 Thes. 1:4. We ourselves glory in you . . . for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations. Effects and rewards: Ps. 40:1. I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry. Eccles. 7:8. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Rom. 5:4. Patience worketh experience; and experience, hope. Rom. 15:4. That we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Col. 1:11. Strengthened with all might . . . unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness. Heb. 6:12. Through faith and patience inherit the promises. Rom. 2:7. To them who by patient continuance in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life. Heb. 10:36.
