HYPOCRISY ｜ 假冒为善

ENHYPOCRISY; Formalism. (Note: the Old Testament word translated "hypocrite" in the A. V. means profane, or godless.) Isa. 58:1-3. (Fasting and outward observance without righteousness.) Jer. 7:4. Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the Lord, The temple of the Lord, are these. Prov. 26:23-26. (Fervent lips and a wicked heart.) Prayer against it: Ps. 139:23, 24. Search me, O God, and know my heart. Luke 11:39-44. Woe unto you, Pharisees, hypocrites! Luke 12:1. Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Matt. 15:7-9. Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, This people honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. Matt. 23:13-33. Christ's fearful denunciations against hypocrites. (Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres. Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?) Illus. Acts 5:3, 4. Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God (Ananias). James 3:17. The wisdom that is from above is . . . without hypocrisy. 2 Tim. 3:5. Holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof.
