ENState of the blessed dead, immediate and intermediate: Luke 23:43. To-day shalt thou be with Me in Paradise. Ps. 73:24. Thou shalt receive me to glory. Phil. 1:21, 23. To die is gain. To depart and be with Christ, which is very far better. [There is a recognizable "intermediate state," a period and a condition between death and the resurrection, between the present of the dead and the general judgment, between the spiritual sowing and the harvest home. The Romanists entered this state and filled it with their purgatory—a purely fiduciary and financial institution. A school of Protestant dreamers filled it with a second probation. Out of these two a third scheme has been created—a high school or university for the race, where they shall make progress in sanctification. What living man knows anything about it? Not one. In Scripture there are the barest glimpses into that shadowy land. The Interior.]

BSBPhilippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

语法a purely fiduciary and financial institution:讽刺性同位语——把炼狱讥为『受托理财的金融机构』(暗指赎罪券与弥撒献金);What living man knows anything about it?
语法参:shall 表应许、命定的将来 → 001 where they shall make progress in sanctification:shall 表设想方案中的安排。

EN[The death of the body is the separation of the soul from the body; but the death of the soul is the separation of the soul from God. Augustine.]

语法两个平行的 the death of … is the separation of … from …

EN[Death may be regarded as "the last enemy," as it brings to a final and abiding issue the life-process of probationary training, and forever closes all opportunity of obtaining Divine forgiveness, acceptance, and restoration to childship. Hence its only "sting" is found in unforgiven and unremitted sin. But to the soul that trusts in Christ, death has no sting, for he himself has been destroyed by Christ. The word of the Master is both sustaining and sure, "He that believeth in Me shall never die." B.]

BSBJohn 11:26 And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

语法brings to a final and abiding issue the life-process …:介词短语提前、长宾语殿后(使一生的历程归于定局);issue 此处古义『结局』;for he himself has been destroyed:death 拟人化,以 he 回指。
语法参:him that / them that = he who / those who → 001 He that believeth in Me:信我的人。

EN[The Pauline statement is, "Through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all have sinned." So far from regarding this relation of human death to sin as an excrescence of the Christian view, which may be dropped without detriment to its substance, I regard it as a truth most fundamental and vital—organically connected with the entire Christian system. Its importance comes out most clearly when we consider it in the light of the Christian doctrine of Redemption. The Bible knows nothing of an abstract immortality of the soul, as the schools speak of it; nor is its Redemption a Redemption of the soul only, but of the body as well. It is the Redemption of man in his whole complex personality—body and soul together. It was in the body that Christ rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and lives and reigns there for evermore. It is His promise that, if He lives, we shall live also; and this promise includes a pledge of the resurrection of the body. The truth which underlies this is, that death for man is an effect of sin. It did not lie in the Creator's original design for man that he should die—that these two component parts of his nature, body and soul, should ever be violently disrupted and severed, as death now severs them. Death is an abnormal fact in the history of the race; and Redemption is, among other things, the undoing of this evil, and the restoration of man to his normal completeness as a personal being. J. Orr.]

BSBRomans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

语法参:形容词后置(名词, 形容词 and 形容词) → 001 a truth most fundamental and vital:形容词组后置(一条最根本、最要紧的真理)。
语法参:倒装(宾语/状语前置引起的主谓倒装) → 001 nor is its Redemption a Redemption of the soul only:nor 引导的否定倒装。
语法So far from regarding … as …, I regard it as …:so far from+动名词(非但不……反而……);It did not lie in the Creator's design that he should die:it 形式主语+that 从句,should 表设计中之当然;for that all have sinned:for that =【古】because。

J. Orr(詹姆斯·奥尔)〕
