Title

ENACCOUNTABILITY TO GOD; Responsibility, Individual and Personal; Judgment according to Life-Work.

ACCOUNTABILITY TO GOD; Responsibility, Individual and Personal; Judgment according to Life-Work.
Responsibility, Individual and Personal = Individual and Personal Responsibility(个人的、切身的责任);Angels, Holy and Fallen = 圣洁的与堕落的天使。经文中也常见:things eternal(永恒之事)。
Responsibility, Individual and Personal = Individual and Personal Responsibility:形容词后置,突出中心词 Responsibility。
语法Judgment according to Life-Work:according to Judgment according to his deeds。

Text

ENThe sense of accountability, the inward conscious conviction of personal responsibility, is an inherent product of the conscience or moral judgment, that exists and spontaneously acts in every man by nature.

The sense of accountability, the inward conscious conviction of personal responsibility, is...(交账的意识,即内心对个人责任的自觉确信,是……)。
本句:the inward conscious conviction of personal responsibility 是主语 The sense of accountability 的同位语;that exists and spontaneously acts... 是修饰 the conscience or moral judgment 的定语从句。 The sense is an inherent product。

ENThe recognition by the moral judgment of right and wrong, good and evil, is necessarily accompanied by the moral feeling consequent upon the willing or doing the right or the wrong.

定冠词 the + 动名词把动作整体名词化,是 19 世纪书面语常见结构:the willing or doing the right or the wrong = 『意愿或行出正事或恶事(这件事)』。
本句:the willing or doing the right or the wrong:定冠词 + 动名词的名词化结构,动名词后直接带宾语,意为『意愿或行出正与恶(这件事)』。

ENAnd, like the other self-recognized fact of dependence, which is produced and set in every man's conviction by known and felt helplessness, this conviction of responsibility implies of necessity a Being to whom the account must be rendered, or a rightful and supreme Moral Ruler and Judge.

语法介词前置的关系从句 to whom / of which
正式书面语把介词提到关系代词之前:a Being to whom the account must be rendered = a Being whom the account must be rendered to(一位必须向其交账的存在者)。 类似:the comfort wherewith we are comforted(我们所受的安慰)。
本句:a Being to whom the account must be rendered:介词 to 前置于关系代词 whom,= a Being whom the account must be rendered to(必须向其交账的那位)。

ENTo this character the fact of dependence intimates the further relation of Creator, Upholder, and Provider. So much of God is assuredly disclosed by conscience and by actual living.

语法To this character 为状语前置(正常语序:the fact of dependence intimates ... to this character),此处前置但不倒装,用于承接上文。So much of God 作主语:『关于神的这么多内容』,of 表『关于……

Scripture Testimony

ENRom. 14:10, 12. We shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God. Each one of us shall give account of himself to God. XI. 268.

BSBRomans 14:10, 12 10 Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you belittle your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

第二人称形式为 shalt(thou shalt)。
本句:We shall all stand / shall give account:shall

EN1 Pet. 4:5. Shall give account to Him that is ready to judge the quick and dead.

BSB1 Peter 4:5 But they will have to give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

语法him that / them that = he who / those who
Him that is ready to judge = 现代英语 Him who is ready to judge(那位预备好施行审判者);them that suffer = those who suffer(那些受苦的人);he that believeth = he who believes(信的人)。
本句:Him that is ready to judge = 现代英语 Him who is ready to judge。

ENMatt. 12:36. Every idle word … shall give account in the day of judgment.

BSBMatthew 12:36 But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

ENHeb. 13:17. As they that shall give account.

BSBHebrews 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch over your souls as those who must give an account. To this end, allow them to lead with joy and not with grief, for that would be of no advantage to you.

语法参:him that / them that = he who / those who → 001 they that shall give account = those who shall give account(将来要交账的人)。

ENEccles. 3:15. God requireth (seeketh again) the past. VI. 462.

BSBEcclesiastes 3:15 What exists has already been, and what will be has already been, for God will call to account what has passed.

-eth 是古英语第三人称单数现在时词尾,相当于现代英语的 -s:requireth = requires,seeketh = seeks,loveth = loves。-est 是与 thou 搭配的第二人称单数词尾:thou scornest = you scorn,thou chastenest = you chasten。特殊形式:hath = has,doth = does,saith = says,art = are(与 thou 连用),shalt = shall,wilt = will。
本句:requireth = requires,seeketh = seeks:-eth 为古英语第三人称单数词尾。

ENEccles. 11:9. VI. 511. Eccles. 12:14. VI. 528.

BSBEcclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, while you are young, and let your heart be glad in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.

ENMatt. 25:15. To every man according to his ability.

BSBMatthew 25:15 To one he gave five talents, to another two talents, and to another one talent—each according to his own ability. And he went on his journey.

ENProv. 9:12. Wise for thyself; if thou scornest thou alone shalt bear it. VI. 293.

BSBProverbs 9:12 If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage; but if you scoff, you alone will bear the consequences.

钦定本(KJV)时代的英语区分第二人称单复数:thou(你,主格)、thee(你,宾格)、thy/thine(你的)、thyself(你自己);ye(你们,主格)、you(你们,宾格)。现代英语已统一为 you/your。
本句:thou(你,主格)、thyself(你自己);thou scornest 中 -est 是与 thou 搭配的动词词尾;shalt = shall 的第二人称形式。

ENJob 34:11. The work of a man shall He render to him, and cause every man to find according to his way. VI. 179.

BSBJob 34:11 For according to a man’s deeds He repays him; according to a man’s ways He brings consequences.

The work of a man shall He render to him = He shall render the work of a man to him(人所做的,他必报应他);gave He the right = He gave the right;yet will I trust Him = yet I will trust Him;In faithfulness hast Thou afflicted me = Thou hast afflicted me in faithfulness。
The work of a man shall He render to him:宾语 The work of a man 前置引起主谓倒装,还原为 He shall render the work of a man to him。

ENPs. 62:12.

BSBPsalm 62:12 and loving devotion to You, O Lord. For You will repay each man according to his deeds.

EN2 Cor. 5:10. We must be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ, that every one may receive according to that he hath done. XI. 362.

BSB2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

hath = has(he hath done = he has done);doth = does,常用于否定和强调:He doth not afflict willingly = He does not afflict willingly(他并不甘心使人受苦)。这些只是拼写古体,语法功能与现代 has/does 相同。
本句:he hath done = he has done:hath 是 has 的古体。according to that he hath done 中 that = what(按他所行的)。

ENRev. 2:23. I will give unto each one of you according to your works.

BSBRevelation 2:23 Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

ENRev. 22:12.

BSBRevelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done.

ENEzek. 18:20. The soul that sinneth, it shall die; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. IX. 81-86.

BSBEzekiel 18:20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. A son will not bear the iniquity of his father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of his son. The righteousness of the righteous man will fall upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked man will fall upon him.

语法参:shall 表应许、命定的将来 → 001 it shall die / shall be upon him:shall 表命定的必然。
定冠词 the + 形容词(不加名词)泛指具有该特征的一类人:the righteous 义人,the wicked 恶人,the good 善人,the upright 正直人,the ransomed 蒙救赎的人。 Why the good suffer and the bad prosper?(为何善人受苦而恶人亨通?)
本句:the righteous 义人 / the wicked 恶人:the + 形容词表一类人。
